I waited four years for an opportunity to visit the Staten Island Lighthouse. It was closed to visitors and hidden behind trees.

The beautiful, pyramidal 1912 lighthouse lived up to my expectations. The statuesque brick lighthouse stood solemnly upon cascading stairs like an Mayan temple. The plush green foliage surrounding it seemed to bow in submission.
